Getting to Mahaulepu Beach

Getting here requires a hike because the main access road has been closed. Park or get dropped off at Shipwreck Beach and take the trailhead that starts from the east side of the beach. Depending on your pace, you can reach this beach anywhere from 1-3 hours.

Is Snorkeling & Swimming at Mahaulepu Beach Safe?

Mahaulepu is better left for confident and skilled swimmers/snorkelers. This part of Kauai has stronger winds and currents, along with potentially hazardous obstacles like caves, blow holes, and lava tubes.

The Mahaulepu Heritage Trail is a great way to see some of the amazing scenery that Kauai has to offer. The trailhead is located near the south shore of the island, and the trail takes you through some of the most beautiful parts of Kauai.
